Fresh is a biannual magazine that the national supermarket SuperValu release for Spring –Summer and Winter–Christmas. I worked on the 80 page publication, while in Huguenot. Photography was supplied before I started. It was my job to develop the look and feel from the previous issue and give it a summer feel. I worked closely with the client, with weekly meetings to discuss updated content, pagination and timelines.

Coldsore cream campaign

Huguenot won the pitch for this project. Once the initial concept was chosen I rolled it out across a wide variety of applications including information leaflets, cityboxes, trade adverts, pharmacy window props, shelf wobblers and washroom mirror stickers. I was also in charge of writing the initial story board for the cinema advert and radio advert.

Corporate identity

This project involved name generation and logo design and roll out for a joinery company. I worked on this while at Huguenot. Since joinery is all about well crafted components that make up a building, the ‘perfect fit’ and ‘click into place’ themes were visualised using the letter i / first letter of Integreat. The tittle of the i character looks like it could be clicked into the stem of the letter. There is a portrait and landscape version, to accommodate for the i symbol, when applied at smaller sizes.

Patient brochure

While in Huguenot I worked on a project for the client Nualtra. Until this project, all applications were geared towards physicians. This brochure was the first Nualtra piece that was directed at patients. Therefore the language changed to address any questions the patient might want answers to etc.

Customised cigar wallet

Huguenot wanted to mark the launch of a client’s product with a unique customised gift. Following the tradition of lighting a cigar when a new child is born, we sent this celebratory token to the client upon the successful launch of their product. I customised this black wallet to hold the cigar and message.

Brief Exchange show 1: my poster

Brief #16. Written by Lee Douglas. Design or illustrate an A1 portrait poster based on one of the following themes: A. The sense of loss B. Intergalactic travel.

I decided to merge the seemingly unrelated topics into one by using the line ‘Wish you were here’. I scanned in my own hand rendered letters. Then I worked on the vector lines that represented time and travel in Illustrator and imported it all into photoshop where I drew the many constellations and galaxies.

Brief Exchange Exhibition

Brief Exchange is a group graphic design and illustration exhibition that invited its participants to compose a brief; to be exchanged with another participant’s brief at random.

The show will take place in two locations:
CIT Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork from August 6th to 24th and the Exchange Dublin Gallery, Exchange Street Upper, Dublin 8, from September 22nd to 30th.

Brief Exchange has been set up and curated by me. It is my second group exhibition. The aim of Brief Exchange is to give creatives a platform to promote their own work and have an opportunity to create for themselves and other creatives as opposed to for money / clients. The show also aims to create a network for creatives who might not know each other yet.

I sent out an invitation to several design agencies around Cork city and county. Each invitation features a different brief from the show. Here’s an example.

I created a brandmark, business card and brochure for a new catering and events company in Melbourne, Australia. Serious Appetite provides high quality service with an emphasis on fun and positive experiences. The logo uses bright colours and a quirky confident style to portray the company’s main values.

Black Balloon EP artwork

This was my second time working with the band Swords. Having gotten to know them and their music more in the past year it was exciting to start work on their new EP artwork. I worked closely with the band during the initial concept and early development stages in order to successfully integrate their personality and musical style into the artwork.
